Born in Washington, DC
Resided in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI
Rob is survived by his loving mother, Ann, his beautiful son, Charlie C. Weikel, his first wife, Maureen A. Conway, his four half-brothers: John Newton, Fred Newton (Bridget), Spencer Newton (Deborah), and Charles Weikel III and Meg Newton (niece) , Kyle Newton (nephew) Charlie Weikel IV (nephew), and his devoted partner, Danielle Varga.
He graduated from Muskingum College, OH, with a Liberal Arts Degree.
Employed in the Information Technology Industry, Rob recently directed his efforts towards the Automotive Industry, working with Ford automotive dealerships. Since the 1990's, Rob had been working with computers in some capacity. IT was a perfect fit for his strong scientific mind.
Rob's big heart and beautiful smile charmed the world. His sincerity and kindness warmed many people. His gentle presence was immediately felt by everyone. His most cherished moments were spending time with his beloved son, Charlie, and his mother, Ann. He loved fishing, swimming, snuggling, ice-skating, and playing with Charlie. His favorite place was Ipperwash Beach, ON. Ipperwash is a magical place where his family has been gathering for generations and Rob's entire life. He loved the spirit of the Lake, the open sky, and the Native North American culture.
His greatest interests besides family and friends were: cooking/grilling, fishing, nature, traveling, the art of relaxation, and listening to and creating music (check out www.reverbnation.com/Rob Weikel to hear some of his music). He loved his friends near and far. He did his best to stay in touch with phone calls, laughing about past times and telling jokes. He also loved watching old classic films along with Zombie movies. Everyone knew Rob loved to tinker and to fix mechanical things. He always had a project from hot tubs to boats to lawn mowers to snow blowers to fixing up homes.
In loving memory of Rob's love and light, a "Celebration of Life" will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017. A memorial gathering will take place at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 15020 Hampton Street, Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230 from 10:00 AM until time of memorial Mass 11:00 AM. All of Rob's family and friends are welcomed.
