June 30, 1930 - May 16, 2017
Born in Detroit, Michigan
Resided in Harper Woods, MI
Mary Jane was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Detroit. She worked in their Food Pantry and visited shut-ins at their homes or nursing facilities. Mary Jane had many simple pleasures in her life, including sitting on her porch chatting with family and friends, an afternoon nap, shopping, St. Patrick's Day, decorating for Christmas, lobster and frog legs, a late afternoon cocktail, the Detroit Tigers (and Miguel Cabrera!), parties, ice cream, and Oreo cookies. Her kids recall their mother inviting the neighborhood kids over to her house in the summer time for pool parties. And when the ice cream truck drove down the street, everyone was treated to ice cream. She loved and doted on her family and would tease her children and grandchildren with "airplane" noises she would make with her mouth. They also fondly remember family vacations in Caseville and Port Austin.
Mary Jane is survived by her five children: Kenneth Zimmerla (Cheryl), Kathleen Mueller (the late Walt), Karen Cook (Kelly), Kolleen Fileccia (John) and Kevin Zimmerla (Ann Marie); ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman, in 1992.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 9:00 pm Sunday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited beginning at 7:00 o'clock Sunday evening. Her body will lie instate at St. Jude Catholic Church, 15879 E. Seven Mile, Detroit from 9:30 am Monday until her funeral mass begins at 10 am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
