Margaret Garmhaus was born in 1924 to Dutch immigrants in Geneva, New York. Her parents owned and operated a small farm and raised 5 children with Margaret being the youngest.
Margaret was valedictorian of her high school class from Geneva High School and earned a scholarship to Hobart and William Smith College where she graduated with honor with a Microbiology degree.
Margaret later earned a master degree in Education from Wayne State University and had a successful career as a teacher in the Grosse Pointe School System. She worked as a district reading specialist later part of her career and helped many children with reading difficulties, with many of the students achieve high success later in live.
Margaret enjoyed cooking, dancing and travel. She and her husband Albert Garmhaus were member of fine art, Merry Go Round, Villager and Nomads.
Margaret is survived by her sons Christopher and Jonathan Hawksley from her marriage to Robert Hawksley, daughters in law Sandra Humphrey and Wendy Hawksley, granddaughters Andrea Hawksley and Danielle Malone, grandson John Hawksley and great grandson David Lutomirski. She is predeceased by her husband Albert Garmhaus.
A private ceremony will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit.
