Sam M. Salomone, age 90, a former resident of St. Clair Shores, currently of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in Detroit. Sam was born June 23, 1927 in Steubenville, Ohio to Dominic and Grace. On September 11, 1945 Sam enlisted and served in the United States Army during WWII. He was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi and also Shepherd Field, Texas before he was honorably discharged in 1946. He went on to study at the Electronics Institute and became an electrical engineer. He worked for Chrysler Missile for 7 years and went on to work for Cadillac Gauge in 1963 that eventually changed names to became Textron, where Sam retired in April of 1990. Sam was a quiet man of many talents and abilities. He was a quiet man and deep thinker. He was a selfless person who truly enjoyed helping others with his wife Earlene, and was able to fix most anything. He enjoyed gardening with his wife growing flowers, vegetables, tending to fig trees, and was meticulous about his tomato garden in which he even kept a spreadsheet to track his crop production. He enjoyed traveling with Earlene to historical American places. Sam and his wife are parishioners of St. Lucy. Sam also participated in Rehab at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church for over 27 years and made many friends. Sam had met his wife Earlene in Steubenville, Ohio at the age of 15, and after serving the country married Earlene Salce on October 23, 1948 at St. Anthony, in Steubenville. Sam and Earlene celebrated 68 years of marriage.
