Helen C. She bravely fought her battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia for more than 5 years.

She was born on January 13, 1923 to the late Elmer and Cecelia Schneider in Detroit, Michigan. She was the beloved wife of Monroe S. Lechner, MD for over 56 years; loving mother of Gary (Maureen), Jon, Jane, Carole (Michael) McDonald, Paul (Rhonda) and the late Brother Joel OSM. She was a proud Gram of Cecelia, Kyle, Ian, Aaron, James, Kathryn, Audrey, Clare, Anneliese, and Evan. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Raymond (the late Mary & the late Virginia), Eleanor (the late John) Monette, Therese (the late Col. Donald R. Griesmer) and Msgr. Robert. Also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, whom she loved.

Helen graduated from St. David High School in Detroit, St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing - Detroit and St. Joseph’s College of Maine.

Helen devoted most of her time to her family. She was involved in both her children and her grandchildren's lives making time to attend both school functions and sporting events for all 10 grandchildren and hosting the week long Camp Oompie during the summer. She enjoyed spending time with Monroe, traveling the world and even cruising the Great Lakes on a working freighter.

Helen was an avid golfer enjoying the links with her husband as often as she could. They enjoyed golf and the beach at their condo in Venice, Florida. They both volunteered their time to Epiphany Cathedral - Venice, Venice Historical Society, Venice Library. She was also a member of a woman's golf league during the summer months.

Helen was a special friend to many and involved in many social groups over the years including needlepoint, dining, cards, books and theater groups as well as an active member in the Wayne County Medical Society Auxiliary, holding many leadership offices. Her ability to be a good friend and make people feel special will be missed by both family and friends.
