Obituary

Laura A. DeJonckheere, "Tanta Laurie," passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019, in Harper Woods at the age of 94. A daughter of Albert and Helena (nee Heydens), Laura was born in December of 1924 in Detroit.

Laura graduated from Nativity of Our Lord High School before making a career as an executive secretary at Eaton Corporation. From there she retired after 44 years of service.

Faith and family were what guided Laura throughout her life. She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace for 50 years and Our Lady Star of the Sea for 5 years. Her charitable work included providing Holy Communion to residents of a local nursing home. Friends and family always accompanied Laura on her travels. At family dinners, "Tanta Laurie" could be counted on to bring pumpkin pies or brownies- her specialties. She will be remembered as one of the nicest and most honorable ladies you could meet.

Laura is predeceased by her siblings; Marcel, August Young, Elise Murphy, Helen, and Leona Verkerke. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.

A visitation for Laura will take place on Friday, May 3, from 2:00-8:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236. Laura will lie in state on Saturday, May 4, from 9:30 am until time of funeral Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 467 Fairford Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit.
