Obituary

Margarete Elizabeth Pelvay age 84 of Warren, Michigan passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019. She was born on December 20, 1934 in Kikinda, in the Banat region of the former Austria-Hungary. She is the daughter of Josef Krämer and Katharina (nee Huhn) Krämer.

Margarete grew up with her mother, grandmother, uncle & two sisters Katie & Susie. She attended school until her family was forced to leave their home during WWII. They fled their homeland and eventually ended their traumatic journey in Linz, Austria.

In Linz, Margarete met her husband Franz Pelvay at a dance and after a short courtship the two were married at Herz Jesus Church in Linz. In 1954 they welcomed their first child Reinhard Franz Pelvay. In 1956 they immigrated to the United States where they settled in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. In 1958 they welcomed their second child a girl, Hildegard Margarete.

Margarete embraced her new life in America and was excited to once again be reunited with her mother and sisters who had immigrated to the United States a few years earlier. Her days were spent raising her 2 growing children and adjusting to a new language in a very different world.

She was an exceptional seamstress and enjoyed making all the children’s clothing. She also designed her own drapes and had a great eye for interior design. When she wasn’t busy indoors you could find her pampering her beautiful roses or collecting the harvest from her vegetable garden.

Her family was everything to her and always came first. She would often help when needed with her grandchildren and then spent many years caring for her ailing mother.

She loved summers where she and Franzie would sit on their porch welcoming neighbors that would come and visit. Her neighbors always commented on how beautiful her flowers and garden was.

Margarete always prided herself on her cooking and baking skills. Her holiday feasts were something we all looked forward to and her baking always looked and tasted amazing.

She became an active member of the Carpathia Club shortly after they moved to Southfield. At the German Club she served on many committees and frequently volunteered her time. She was also the treasure for the Ladies Auxiliary group. She thoroughly enjoyed all her years at the Carpathia Club and often spoke of all the good memories she had.

Margarete is the beloved wife of the late Franz Pelvay for 68 years. Loving mother of Hildy Pelvay Siladi (Rick Siladi) and the late Reinhard Pelvay (surviving wife Judy). Treasured Oma of Marie Pelvay, (Michael Jender) Michael Pelvay, Brigitta Siladi, and Kirsten Siladi. Proud great-grandmother of James Reinhard Jender. Dear sister of the late Susie Binder, the late Katie Bering and the late Theresa Krämer. Cherished godmother of Laurie Tansey and Ed Binder. Margarete is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
