Holiday Remembrance Service

Holiday Remembrance Service

The cornerstone of our bereavement service is our annual remembrance service. It is held once a year close to the holidays at each funeral home.

All the families we have served through the year are invited back to the funeral home. The funeral home staff diligently prepares a memorable occasion. Special music is arranged for. A speaker familiar with grief provides helpful advice on how to get through the first holiday season without their loved one. In addition, there is a candle lighting ceremony which recognizes the different types of loss. A memorial video is produced especially for the remembrance service. Following the service everyone gathers for light refreshments. Many linger into the evening. We have received many notes days after the event thanking us for helping them remember their loved one.

The First Remembrance service was held in 2011 the same year my mother passed. I didn’t realize how much I missed her until I saw her photo once more at the service. In a way it was comforting. After her funeral I kept busy with my day to day life. I chose not to grieve. The remembrance service came at just the right time. It made me recognize my loss and provided me with the strength to accept her death.
