David Peters, Owner, Licensed Funeral Director
As third generation owner and grandson of founder Arthur H. Peters, David Peters received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and his Mortuary Science Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan.
As a life-long resident of the Grosse Pointe community, David joined the firm in 1982 as a licensed funeral director.
David has been a two term President of the National Association of Approved Mortician’s and is a member and past District Officer of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association.
David has continually stayed at the forefront of the funeral service profession by earning his Certified Crematory Operator and Certified Preplanning Consultant designations.
Jon O’Hara, Director of Advance Planning/Licensed Funeral Director
A born and raised eastsider, Jon has the pleasure of supporting families in the surrounding communities with advance funeral and life celebration planning. He has over 17 years in funeral service and funeral home consulting, but now specializes in advance-planning and aftercare.
When not planning with families, Jon can be found in the community attending philanthropic events, hosting Lunch & Learns and volunteering at local non-profit organizations.
Jon is a graduate of Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores, Albion College, and Ivy Tech college of Mortuary Science. He serves as a board member of the Martha T. Berry Foundation and the Grosse Pointe Senior Commission. In his spare time, Jon enjoys boating, landscaping and all things Detroit sports. He lives in Richmond, MI with his wife Michelle, sons Henry and Teddy.
David Kesner, Special Projects Coordinator, Licensed Funeral Director
David is the coordinator of special projects at A.H. Peters Funeral Home. David was raised in Armada, a small village in northern Macomb County. His father was the owner of the Kesner Burial Vault Company, where David had his first contact with the funeral business. During his high school years, David explored the possibility of becoming a licensed funeral director; he subsequently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University in 1975. In 1976, he graduated Wayne State University’s School of Mortuary Science, and he began his tenure at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home in November of that year.
David is involved in many community activities, including the Harper Woods-Grosse Pointe Woods Lions Club where he is a past president; the Harper Woods-Grosse Pointe Woods Goodfellows; the St. Lucy Golf League; and the St. John Hospital Guild Board of Directors where he is currently Vice President of the Guild. He is a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where he has held key administrative positions with the annual Spring Festival. He is also a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association, where since 1990 he has been the Chairman or member of the Audit Committee. He has also been District Director representing funeral homes in the greater Wayne County area. Committed to education and excellence in his chosen profession, David has completed the requirements for certification as a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.
David and his wife Patty are residents of Grosse Pointe Woods and are the parents of two grown children, Katie and Michael. When he’s not working or on the golf course, David enjoys vacationing in Traverse City, Arizona, Las Vegas and cruising the Caribbean.
Scott Edward Berry, Licensed Funeral Director
Scott is a proud 2004 graduate of the Mortuary School at Wayne State University.
He is an active member in the community and is the Second Vice District Governor 11-A2 Lions District of the Lions Club International and a member of the Eastpointe Lions Club for 10 years. Giving back to the community is important to Scott as he volunteers with the Macomb County Habitat for Humanity and for the Salvation Army.
He enjoys riding his bicycle, camping, canoeing and tubing in the summer.
John Campbell, Licensed Funeral Director
John is a 1988 graduate from Grosse Pointe North High School and a 1994 graduate from Wayne State University’s Mortuary Science program.
John is a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Woods. Having lived in the Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods community since 1982, John is honored and proud to have helped and will continue to help friends and acquaintances during their times of grief.
John is a member of the Jefferson Yacht Club and in his spare time John enjoys spending time with his family and friends and playing golf.
Brittani Crisp, Licensed Funeral Director
Brittani is a licensed funeral director graduating from Worsham College in 2014 and earning her licensure in 2015.
She also attends Madonna University as a sign language student majoring in interpreting. She is a volunteer with the Motor City Strong Man competition and the Fitzgerald school district for several events.
Brittani enjoys spending her free time crocheting and going to see local bands and concerts.
Charles Oliver, Licensed Funeral Director
Chuck was born and raised in the Metro Detroit Area. He graduated from Harper Woods Notre Dame High School in 1996 and attended Central Michigan University where he began his undergraduate studies. He graduated from the Wayne State University Department of Mortuary Science in 2001 and became a licensed Michigan funeral director that same year.
After graduating from WSU he began teaching as an assistant professor in embalming and anatomy. Chuck has also completed his graduate work at Villanova University.
Chuck is a licensed Michigan Realtor, a member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Roseville and a life member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He is an ordained Christian minister and enjoys helping families celebrate monumental life events like weddings and baptisms, and offers prayers and tender sympathies to grieving families he serves.
In his free time Chuck enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Chuck is a strong supporter of the Detroit sports teams as well as playing sports himself, spending time outdoors, boating, playing guitar, exercising and traveling. Chuck is an avid supporter of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Children’s Miracle Network and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Lawrence Penar, Licensed Funeral Director
Larry was born in the Detroit area and raised in what is now known as Eastpointe. He is a 1971 graduate of Notre Dame High School and a 1974 graduate of Wayne State University Department of Mortuary Science, receiving licensure in mortuary science in 1975.
Larry joined A.H. Peters in 2003 and in 2015 he received recognition for 40 years of service and licensure.
A widower, Larry has two adult children, a daughter and a son. He is a member of the Royal Oak – Detroit Elks #34 and attends Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Clawson. His hobbies include genealogy.
Phillip Potter, Licensed Funeral Director
As a funeral director at A.H. Peters we are proud that Phillip is a recipient of the Michigan Mortuary Science Foundation Award. He has also served his craft as a published author in the Michigan Funeral Directors Association Journal.
Phillip is a member and past president of the Harper Woods Rotary Club. He is active with the St. Clair Shores Players, Grosse Pointe Theatre and Detroit Arts Club Theatre.
He and his wife Jan have one son, Lucas.
Kathryn Steinetz, Licensed Funeral Director
Kathy has been a Funeral Director with A.H. Peters Funeral Home since 2011. As a second career choice in service, Kathy earned her Bachelor's Degree in Mortuary Science in 2011, graduating Wayne State University Magna Cum Laude. She is currently working towards becoming a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner through The Academy of Funeral Service Practice. She is also a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.
Kathy and her husband, Steve, live in Warren. In their free time, they enjoy cooking, reading and traveling. One of Kathy’s goals is to visit all fifty states before venturing outside of the United States. She currently only has one more state to go . . . it's Oklahoma.
Richard A. Genther, Licensed Funeral Director
Rick is a 1967 graduate of East Detroit High School. He attended Fort Wayne Bible College and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University.
Rick is a member of the Christian Trinity Assembly of God Church in Eastpointe. He is the president of the West Macomb Gideon's. Spending time with family, fishing, hiking, and working out are ways he spends his off time, along with being an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan.
Rick and his wife Kristina have raised five children; Jason, Richard Jr., Adam, Jessica and Jacob.
Allison Voorhess, Licensed Funeral Director
Allison has been a member of the A.H. Peters staff since 2015. A resident of Mount Clemens, she graduated from Lutheran High School North in 2013.
Allison continued her education at Albion College, where she enjoyed both academic and extracurricular activities including Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity, and the western equestrian team. In 2017, Allison earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management, graduating with magna cum laude honors and joining the nation’s oldest academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.
In September of 2018, Allison graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois. She is the proud recipient of the Albert E. Worsham Memorial Award and a member of Pi Sigma Eta, the National Morticians Fraternity. Allison is a second-generation funeral director, following the footsteps of her late uncle, John C. Voorhess.
A lifelong “horse person,” Allison takes riding lessons at Grosse Pointe Equestrian (formerly the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club). She also enjoys kayaking and spending time with family in Port Austin, Michigan.
Mechelle Brachel. Accounting Manager
Mechelle has been with A.H. Peters since 1989. As the accounting manager she oversees all the financial operations of the funeral home.
She is very active in the community as a member of Seymour Lake United Methodist Church, a Stephens Minister, Heavenly Stitchers Quilt Guild and many environmental and children’s charities.
In her spare time, she enjoys quilting, hiking, gardening and taking time with her great nieces to teach them crafts and sewing. Mechelle is married to her husband Dale.
Lauren Husband, Funeral Liaison
Lauren earned her Bachelors’ Degree in International Relations from James Madison College at Michigan State. She also earned an Associates’ Degree in Interior Design and is furthering her education working on her Masters’ Degree in Business Administration.
She is a member of Our Lady of Queen of Martyrs in Beverly Hills. She is also a member of the Junior League and volunteers at Humble Design.
Running, gardening, golfing, reading and traveling are among many of her hobbies.
Lauren is married to her husband Brian.
Kristin Schram, Funeral Liaison
Kristin began working at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in 2006.
In her spare time Kristin enjoys crafts, painting, baking, reading and gardening. She is a big Disney enthusiast – Imagineering and creating!
Kristin is married to her husband Bill and they have a daughter Serina.
Jim Hardwick, Funeral Assistant/IT
Jim joined A.H. Peters in 1999 after serving in the US Marine Corps. While serving in the military, Jim became the computer expert in each of his duty stations. He continues this role at the funeral home as the Funeral Assistant and IT Guy.
He was instrumental in developing the company’s first website and administers the database that the staff uses to serve our families.
A proud veteran, Jim has served on the Executive Board of the local AmVets since 2007. Jim and his wife Tish reside in St. Clair Shores.
Mark A. Sledzinski, Maintenance
Mark keeps the funeral homes in tip top shape. He is committed to working hard to keep the buildings safe and comfortable for families.
He is a member of the Warren Beautification Commission, Antioch Baptist Church and is a Centerline baseball coach.
His interests also include his prized 1971 Pontiac GTO, his love of cars, 80’s music, going to concerts, baseball, football and attending hockey games.
Mark and his wife Holly have two sons Anthony and Andrew.
George Rodzos, Night Manager
Along with being a night manager at A.H. Peters he is also part owner in a local, independent pizzeria.
He enjoys farming and growing his own produce on the family farm.
Joe Gagnon, Night Attendant
Joe earned his Bachelors of Art in Piano Performance from Wayne State University at the Interlochen Arts Academy.
As a world traveler, Joe has travelled extensively. He also enjoys boating, playing the piano and attending concerts at the DSO.
